The weather has changed from the long and warm summer days to the shorter and windy autumn and soon fall will give way to winter and snow. With the change in seasons there is a corresponding change in our lifestyle choices, as one would expect. The time for being in the swimming pool or by the beach side has passed and the time for snuggling up cosily is here.
One of the first places to make these changes is the bedroom. Now, the bedroom is not only used for sleeping, we all spend more time in there thinking, relaxing, or even reading a book or working with our computers. Seeing as the bedroom is such an important part of the house, it is only natural that we take special care to make it comfortable to be in.
To conserve heat when doing simple things around the house like sitting attending to something or reclining or even sleeping, you can put a faux fur throw or a chinchilla around yourself. Using a faux fur is a proven way of keeping warm and snug even on the coldest of days.
Something else that would be helpful will be changing the colours of your house. Now, a complete repainting might not be very convenient but you don’t need to repaint to change the colour tone: a little adjustments here and there will go a long way. There are some colours which are good for amplifying light but don’t do very well to create the impression of warmth. White is one of these, as well as other stark colours. But what you need in these days are warm colours like orange, brown and wine. A few changes like adding throw covers and cushions in warm colours will go a long way. And what will go an even longer way will be changing the furniture altogether. It is time to discard those cane chairs and wooden chairs and get some love seats, replacing leather with fabric because the leather is cold to the touch in the cold months.
Another thing that can be done is to replace window blinds with curtains; the type made out of fabric. It would be especially nice if you make curtains that are heavily lined and made with heavy fabrics as that would reduce the amount of heat lost to the environment during these chilly times.
Remember, your autumn and winter don’t have to be so cold and glum, you can dictate what it will be by making adjustments!
